2011-2012 Season Getting Started

Posted by Sandy M on Wednesday, October 26, 2011,

Dragon & Eve (mojave x mojave)
I'm hoping to produce some super mojo BELs with these two but I haven't ruled out the possibility of throwing Erebus, my black pastel, in with Eve and make this a who's your daddy clutch. Erebus is approximately 6 months old now and is already slamming small rats and producing sperm plugs. I'm going to put a few more meals in him before I consider trying him with Eve. I'd be happy with either mojos and BELs or mojos and black magics - and ecstatic if I had both ...

It's About Time!

Posted by Sandy M on Wednesday, September 21, 2011,
Finally!!

Day 69 and Kyriel's clutch is beginning to pip. This is the longest incubation duration I've ever been through. So far I've only seen one head peeking out but I'll be sure to check in again in a few hours and get more pics if there are more heads out or if the first has emerged.

Henna's Clutch is Hatching

Posted by Sandy M on Saturday, August 13, 2011,
Henna's clutch started hatching yesterday. There's definitely one albino in the clutch. I'm hoping there are two. Time will tell. :)

**  Well... unfortunately only the one albino in this clutch. It's a little boy, though, and will very likely remain with me. The rest of the clutch consists of 1 male and 3 female hets.

Kyriel's Clutch is on the Ground

Posted by Sandy M on Sunday, July 24, 2011,

There are four healthy eggs. The first photo taken as the last egg was being laid and the second photo is of Kyriel 10 days into brooding. These are due to start hatching sometime mid-September. Hopefully there will be a pied or two among them. At the very least all of these babies will be 100% het pieds.

Henna's Clutch

Henna finally laid her clutch.  :)   There are five big eggs.  These are due to hatch around August 14th.

VPI Black Satin Black Pastel

Posted by Sandy M on Wednesday, May 25, 2011,

He's so little!  :)  He seems really mellow and didn't puff, hiss or try to strike while I was unbagging him. He's a handsome little guy as is but I think he is starting to go into a shed cycle because his belly is a bit pink and his skin seems a bit dull. I'm anxious to see him freshly shed! All in all, I'm really happy with him and Raul Campos of West Coast Jungle was very easy to work with. He even called me this morning just after FedEx dropped off the package and left a voi...

Deli Cup Baby & Egg Pipping

Posted by Sandy M on Wednesday, May 18, 2011,
Well, I went against my own advice and cut one of the eggs because worry had been nagging at me. It's the little one that had spent some time at the top of the pile as a chin rest for mom. It had wrinkled much earlier than the others and though it reflated a bit after I moved it, it has just stayed smaller than the rest and I wasn't sure if the baby inside was going to have much room in there as a result. All of the eggs have been sweating like crazy this week and I was getting water sp...

Joint Projects - Getting There

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, April 18, 2011,
PythonPassion's piebald male, Hercules, and het albino male, Alchemy, have been with me for some time now and things are finally starting to look as if they are coming to fruition on our joint projects. Hercules has been paired with Kyriel, my het pied female. Alchemy has been paired with Henna, my albino female.

Kyriel has been eating anything I offer her lately and is now going into a shed cycle. I'm hopeful that this may be a pre-ovulation shed. Kyriel laid a clutch late last year so I f...

Candling Pics & Video Clip (Freckles)

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, April 18, 2011,

Above is a photo taken while candling Freckles' eggs 27 days into incubation. Everything appears to be developing normally and Freckles doesn't appear to be nearly as agitated by my infrequent visits to check in on her and the eggs as before.

I got a short video clip as well.

First Clutch on the Ground. Mar 19, 2011

Posted by Sandy M on Saturday, March 19, 2011,

Freckles, my het burgundy, laid her clutch late last night/early this morning. Until she uncoils, I don't have a definite egg count but I believe there are 7 or 8 eggs beneath her. She was paired with Dragon, my mojave, as well as Makalo, my pastel. I saw several locks with the mojave but none with the pastel. I guess we'll just have to wait and see who sired this clutch.

** Edit **

There are a total of 8 eggs, no slugs.

Things are Looking Good

Posted by Sandy M on Wednesday, March 2, 2011,
My new camera finally arrived the other day and I got a few pics of the girls. Both Freckles and Dewshine are very obviously gravid so it's only a matter of time before they lay eggs. The rest of the girls are not too far behind them and are still in the "building" stage.

Dewshine (with Dragon)

Freckles (due to lay in a few weeks)

Ailynn (with Makalo hiding under her)

Kyriel (locked with Hercules)

Henna (with Alchemy)

Some Progress

Posted by Sandy M on Thursday, January 27, 2011,
Some of my females are glowing and are definitely building now. Unfortunately, my camera is dead. Nothing to be done for it. The lens piece is stuck in a closed position and the camera won't power on. *sigh*  I'll have to start looking for a new camera at some point in the near future. Hopefully I'll have a new one before things get more exciting with the projects.

Freckles is currently a pretty toffee color and blushing all over. She's getting huge and lingering on the cool end of her en...

Boys Borrowed

Posted by Sandy M on Friday, November 12, 2010,
Here are some pics of the males my friend generously loaned to me.

Hercules is gorgeous but his belly is starting to go pink and his color is a bit dull today so I expect him to shed soon. I'll be sure to get more pics after he does.

Alchemy is really nice. He's so dark and handsome. I'm so looking forward to pairing him with Henna. He's sure to produce some stunning albino babies!

Breeding Loan

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, November 1, 2010,
A good friend of mine, Pam from PythonPassion.com, has loaned me two of her breeder males so that she and I can produce a couple snakes that we've been wanting to add to our collections. The first is Alchemy, a beautifully dark black backed het albino. The second is Hercules, a very handsome low white piebald. They are settling in and I'll see about getting some pics of them up in a few days. I will be pairing Hercules with Kyriel and Alchemy with Henna this season.   :)

Babies are eating on their own =)

Just a quick update:
All four of the 66% het pied babies are eating on their own. Just have to get them off of mouse hoppers and onto rat fuzzies.  ;-)

New Babies!

Posted by Sandy M on Friday, September 24, 2010,
The het pied x het pied clutch FINALLY left their eggs. Unfortunately, there are no piebalds among them - only 66% het pieds - but they all have beautiful belly markers. The only problem I've spotted is a tiny kink on the tip of one tail. I will sex these guys after their first shed and see about getting them started on feeding.

Introducing Spyra

Posted by Sandy M on Saturday, September 18, 2010,
Last night I was able to pick up my new spider ball baby. She's really cute and I'm looking forward to growing her up. Since Brianna helped me to win her in my friend Pam's raffle contest, I let her think of a name for her. She decided to name her Spyra. Not what I would have chosen, but I'm happy with it.

Due in Just a Couple More Weeks!

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, September 6, 2010,

The above pic was Kyriel, my het pied female, on Day 43. I've candled her eggs and I just really can't say whether there are any pieds in there or not. I would like to think that at least one of the eggs I've been squinting at looked like a pied in the light, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm still unsure if I'll be holding back any of the babies in this clutch. We'll see in a couple of weeks, I guess!

New Mojo

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, September 6, 2010,
I meant to post before, but it slipped my mind...

At the end of August, we went on a road trip to Shelbyville, KY to pick up a new mojave female named Eve. I thought the pics of her looked really nice but now that she's home and has shed, her colors are just unreal. She's very small for her age, but I am certain that she'll gain weight without any problem. She definitely has no qualms about eating. Below is a picture of her with my male mojave, Dragon, to show the difference in their colors. E...

Won a Contest!

Posted by Sandy M on Monday, September 6, 2010,
My friend, Pam, runs PythonPassion and put together a contest on her forum. My daughter helped me pick raffle tickets and the number she chose wound up being the winner. The prize is a 2010 spider ball female. I'll be able to pick her up as soon as she's had a couple more meals. I got to see her last night and she's cute as can be. I'm looking forward to bringing her home soon. My daughter wants to name her "Spyra".

New Pastel Male

Posted by Sandy M on Friday, July 16, 2010,
I received my new pastel on Wednesday and my first experience with ReptilesExpress was perfect. The snake, however, is not. He has a slight defect. He has a kink at the base of his tail and I'm not sure yet if it will interfere with his ability to breed next year. Only time will tell. He did eat for me just last night so I'm hopeful that he'll do just fine.

Eggs are finally hatching

Posted by Sandy on Friday, July 16, 2010,
On Days 59 and 56, my ball python clutches finally began pipping. So far, each looks to be a normal baby but not all eggs have pipped yet and only one has actually left its egg, so time will tell.

New Names

Posted by Sandy M on Friday, July 9, 2010,
I finally settled on names for my two newest snakes. One of these is still not here yet. I've paid for him, and a carrier is set but it's just too hot to ship right now and I'll wait until next week when this heat wave moves out of here. The female butter I've named Elphaba (Elphie) and the male pastel with the bizarre pattern I've named Fiyero. These are characters from one of my favorite books, "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". It's a great book. I highly recomme...

New Baby

Posted by Sandy M on Thursday, June 17, 2010,

New Addition!

Posted by Sandy M on Thursday, June 17, 2010,
I saw a gorgeous butter ball on Kingsnake and fell in love with her. After talking it over with my partner, he gave me the green light to pick her up. She's coming from Desert Dweller Reptiles in Arizona. She's on her way here now and I'm so anxious I'm having trouble going to sleep. I won't be able to relax until she's in my hands. I'll be sure to take some pics of her before I get her set up tomorrow. In the meantime, I do have a pic of her from Desert Dweller.

Eggs and Candling

Posted by Sandy M on Thursday, June 10, 2010,
Two of our ball pythons, Dewshine and Ailynn, laid their clutches on May 17th and May 20th. I have been candling them periodically to see the embryos developing inside. Because I'm allowing these girls to maternally incubate, it makes things a little awkward but they're both becoming more comfortable with my visits.

Our piebald project is finally coming to fruition. Gabriel and Kyriel, my het pieds, have been paired since early November and Kyriel ovulated on June 4th. I am very excited abou...

Getting FedEx Certified

Posted by Sandy M on Thursday, June 10, 2010,
I've put off getting FedEx certified for live animal shipment for a long while but finally started the process on June 1st. Hopefully get this taken care of before new babies start hatching. My test package arrived at its destination yesterday so I hope to move on to the next step soon.
